Providing Basic Education in Rural India for over 60 years Siksha-Niketan translated as the “Abode of Learning” is an educational institution for underprivileged children in rural India. This institution originally established in 1951 by Late Sri Bijoykrishna Bhattacharya, has been providing “Basic Education” to children of poor farmers in the village of Kalanabagram free of cost, for over sixty years. Built on the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi’s “Buniyadi Siksha”(Basic Education), Siksha-Niketan runs a very unique program of education which emphasises on vocational and values education alongside an academic curriculum. This institution currently provides opportunities for education to nearly five hundred underprivileged children and young adults in the village of Kalanabagram in Burdwan district of West Bengal.
Siksha-Niketan is a nonprofit, non-government charity organisation, and runs on donations and volunteer work offered by friends and well wishers, and some support from the Central and State Governments.
